What do Administrative Assistants Do?
Administrative assistants act as clerical or office assistant, helping their employers with day to day administrative tasks. The exact job requirements can vary between employers, however the usual tasks involve filing and managing documents, drafting letters, booking air tickets, managing communications (including attending phone calls, managing mails and emails), and keeping all the above jobs recorded and archived in digital or printed forms. Sometimes you handle all the above tasks and sometimes you will handle one or two tasks, depending on the size of the organization you work for and depending on the number of administrative assistants your employer has hired.
The exact nature of administrative assistant job can also vary with advancements in technology – in the past you would handle fax machines and typewriters, but today you handle computer more, preparing spreadsheets, managing databases and managing electronic data files. Administrative assistants are responsible for the management of information pertaining to management of day to day administration, scheduling tasks and travel arrangements for the employees and guests.
