What does an Advocate (Scotland) do?
Advocates (Scotland) represent individuals or organisations in Courts of law. They also qualified to give legal advice to their clients – individuals, organisations, etc. They are called barristers in other parts of UK. They meet other legal professionals, solicitors, etc on behalf of their clients. They also conduct researches to find legal points and verdicts of similar cases in the past. They also provide legal advice to professionals, businesses, solicitors, etc. Your duties can also include preparing cases, analysing witness statements, etc. You will also represent your clients before the Court, making arguments and cross-examining witnesses.
Depending on the type of cases you handle, the amount of time you spend at the Court or at your office varies. Sometimes you will also be helping your clients with out of court settlements.
