Default What does an Air Traffic Controller do?

An air traffic controller operates from a control centre, controlling air traffic.

As an Air Traffic Controller, your duties will include:

Tracking the different aircrafts in your sector
Preventing unauthorised entry of aircrafts
Giving landing instructions to aircrafts approaching the airport
Guiding aircrafts safely, especially during bad weather conditions

If you are assigned ground control activities, you will be required to directing aircrafts on their runway – before takeoff and after landing. You also guide them as they taxi to/from holding areas.

Responding to emergency distress calls is an important part of your duty. Sometimes aircrafts can lose direction, especially in bad weather conditions. You identify the exact position of the aircraft and direct them to change direction, altitude and give instructions to fly to safety.

This job requires you to speak fluently, clearly and calmly to communicate instructions correctly and completely.
