Default Qualifications needed to become an Air Traffic Controller

Air traffic control licence is the important qualification you need to have. you can get this qualification after passing training courses offered by National Air Traffic Services, BAE Systems and Aviation Services Training and Consultancy. You need to be at least 18 years of age to join the course and you get licence only after you turn 20. You need to have good education – five GCSEs (A-C), including maths and English. You will also need to pass security clearance. You also need to pass medical/physical fitness tests.

You can also be considered for the post of a trainee, if you have prior experience in flying aircrafts for commercial or military purposes. The training programs use state of the art facilities including air traffic simulators.

You will first join as a Trainee Air Traffic Controller or Air Traffic Controller Assistant, from where you can gain further qualifications and get promotions to higher grades.
