Default Qualifications needed to become an Airline Pilot

There are different pilot training courses, all of which requires big financial commitment. It will be beneficial if you can get sponsored training, as you can get the training without spending so much.

The first step is to achieve an Airline Transport Pilot's Licence (ATPL), know as frozen ATPL, until you complete enough number of flying hours before you can get a full licence and qualification as an airline captain.

You need to be physically fit with normal eyesight & normal colour vision and good hearing. You will have to pass medical/fitness tests. It is always better to first take an aptitude test offered by the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators (GAPAN).

If you have experience flying military aircraft as part of your previous military training, you can take a conversion course. Different universities also offer courses like pilot training. You can also go through accredited private training, which can cost £50,000 to £80,000. Sponsored training programs by airline companies are a good option, as you can get training at the airline's cost.
