What does an Alexander Technique Practitioner do?
The Alexander Technique is developed by FM Alexander to manipulate the way we use ourselves for everyday activities. By controlling muscle tension and effort, you can become aware of energy spent on various activities – sitting down, walking, lifting some objects and everything. A practitioner helps his/her clients to prevent unhealthy habits and to develop healthy habits. It promotes health, fitness and mental well being.
You will work with your clients on an one on one basis. You use your fingers to identify the unwanted pressure your clients create on their muscles. You will then tell them the ways of letting go of the muscle tension. You will also identify the ways in which you can guide a client to healthy habits. Your clients can then use the techniques while going about their daily activities.
Your clients can include musicians or actors, who want to improve their posture or voice. You will also be dealing with sports persons who want to maximise returns for their efforts. Ordinary people suffering from conditions like muscle strain, back or neck pain, posture or balance problems, etc also come in search of your services.
