Default What does an Archivist do?

An archivist is a qualified professional, working to preserve historically important records and documents. They work to archive and preserve language and other works available on paper, photographs, films and electronic files. The duties include making sure the materials are kept in good condition, according to the standards of archiving and cataloging. You will also help people use the archives by making it available on microfilms, computer files or printouts/photocopies.

You will also work with owners of archival materials, negotiating terms for transfer of such items. You will also carry out extensive researches. Your duties can also include organizing exhibitions for the interest of the public.
