What Qualifications are required to become an Army Soldier?
Army soldiers should meet certain qualifications, although academic qualifications are not the first thing to look for. Minimum age is 16 and maximum age is 33. If you are below 18 years, you need consent from a parent/guardian. You should also meet nationality requirements and pass physical/medical tests. If seeking jobs in communications or technical departments, you will need relevant qualifications in that area.
Army Entrance Test (known as BARB) is a specially designed test that tries to recognise your talents and to enrol you for specific functions. This test doesn't guarantee you employment in the armed forces and you are not obliged to join army. Physical, medical and aptitude tests follow. Your enrolment is finalised only after these tests. Army contracts are different for different age groups. If your age is between 16 years and 17 years & one month, you can apply for a 42-week school leavers' course. Up to 18 years, your contract is till the day before your 22nd birthday. After 18, your contract is for four years and three months.
