Default Qualifications to Becoming an Arts Administrator?

There are no set qualifications or parameters to becoming an arts administrator. General organisational skills, willingness to work for long hours, and aggressive sales skills are the prerequisites. Experience is the only qualification for getting a job as an arts administrator. The experience can be gained by working as an volunteer for various events including local carnivals, assisting organising charity & fundraising events, volunteering at arts festivals, etc.

An arts administrator is responsible for bookkeeping, public relations and marketing. Thus a degree level or higher qualification in marketing, accounting or administration will be helpful, but not mandatory. Part time post graduate courses are available in arts administration and arts management. Such courses cover all the necessarily skills like communication skills, ability to work calmly under pressure, basic bookkeeping, marketing, sales, etc.
