Default Qualifications Required to Becoming an Assistant Immigration Officer

Educational qualifications are not so much stressed, while your nationality, skills and aptitude will be tested. You must be a UK national and should have lived in the country for the past five years. You should also be below 59 years. You will go through different tests and interviews, which check your levels of literacy and numerical skills. It is also essential that you pass a physical fitness & medical test, before being accepted as an assistant immigration officer. You will be required to work in shifts and at the seaports and airports throughout the UK.

An assistant immigration officer requires good judgement skills and ability to work with other departments (like police). They should also be able to conduct interviews with the inbound passengers and the judgement to make sure they are qualified under immigration rules. Should be knowledgeable about immigration laws, he/she should be able to identify the persons staying illegally in the country.
