Default What does a Building Control Officer do?

A building control officer is responsible for making sure the buildings meet regulatory standards of fire, public health, energy conservation, etc. Also known as building control surveyors, these officers ensure the planning and construction of buildings of all kinds is according to the norms and restrictions. You will be offering guidelines and implementing rules on everything from home extensions to big city buildings. Your duties will involve working with architects, designers, builders and all other parties involved. You will also suggest ways of improving energy efficiencies, public health requirements, fire safety, etc. You will also carry out regular inspections to make sure the buildings conform to the standards. You will also keep records of permissions given and issue certificates on completion. In case the building is not meeting the regulations, you can initiate legal action to stop the building process and/or for demolition of the structure.
