Qualifications required to become a Building Control Officer
You need a diploma or degree in civil engineering, building studies, building surveying or similar subjects. BTEC National Diploma, HNC/HND, or degree in any of the subjects is essential. Local authorities who employ you may have slightly varying entry requirements. There are also opportunities in the private sector and in inspection units. After joining as a building control officer, you can further your qualifications and knowledge by taking NVQ qualifications like Building Control Level 4. You can also work towards professional accreditation by RICS or ABE. There are also seminars, workshops and short terms courses to keep you up to date to new legislations and practices.
