There aren't any mandatory qualifications to get a job as a car rental agent. There are various skills that will be of importance. General awareness of vehicles, good sales and marketing skills, pleasing personality, good communication skills, accounting skills, etc is required. There isn't any course that prepares you to become a car rental agent.

Experience in customer service, office administration, sales, etc will be of advantage. Your employer will look your skills, capabilities and willingness to work under stressful conditions and without losing eye for detail. You will need a driving license. Foreign language skills will be advantageous, especially if your agency is located at areas of tourist interest or next to airports.

Once in the job, your employer may ask you to complete NVQs in Customer service, business administration, etc. British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association also offers Vehicle Rental Operator Skills Certificate, which you get only after joining a rental company affiliated to the Association.
