What does a Cartographer do?
A cartographer makes maps, charts, graphs and surveys. There is a lot of information packed into the maps. Different kinds of maps and geographical charts are produced to meet specific demands – surveying, military requirements, etc. As a cartographer, you will be required to modify existing maps – like weather charts – or create new maps for uncharted areas. You will add scales, symbols and other information to the maps. Cartography is now a high-tech job, with latest advanced technologies used in map production. You can use variety of tools like software and work closely with surveyors, designers, etc. You will also use geographical information systems to identify and present geographical features. You will also conduct topographic (land) and hydrographic (marine) surveys.
