Qualifications required to become a Catering or Restaurant Manager
You need good standards of general education. You will also need experience in managing a restaurant or food/catering business. You can usually join as a trainee manager, from where you can learn the techniques and responsibilities. You can start as a waiter/waitress, then take on more responsibilities like handling administration & cash, and slowly working your way up to management position. You can opt for NVQ Level 2 in Food & Drink Service. There are also management trainee programs on offer by hotel/fast food chains.
Once you join as a manager or a trainee, you can receive further training. You can also work towards NVQ Level 3 qualification in Hospitality Management or similar. If the restaurant sells alcoholic beverages, you need a personal license for the sale of alcohol.
