Default Qualifications required to become a Coroner

You can become a coroner, if you have any of the following qualifications – a qualified barrister, solicitor or doctor with minimum five years experience. In some cases, coroners have qualifications in both medicine and law, with experience in any one area. You will start your job as a deputy coroner or assistant to deputy coroner. That is, you have to first get appointed as a deputy to a coroner.

Once you meet the qualifications and start working as a coroner, you can take further training, from Coroners Division of Ministry of Justice. You will get training in court proceedings, administration and laws regarding the responsibilities of coroners.
