Default What does a Court Reporter do?

The main role of a Court Reporter is to create verbatim transcripts of court hearings and proceedings which are necessary for correspondence, records or legal proof. They have to give a complete, clear and accurate legal record. Court reporters use two methods to transcript records of court proceedings, one is machine shorthand and the other is traditional shorthand.

Some of the essential duties of Court Reporters include attending court hearings, if necessary you must read back recorded passages, transcribing the day’s note, check grammatical errors, spelling mistakes and edit not losing the original judgment and must send a copy of this to the judge for approval. Apart from all these Court Reporters must check the notes for accuracy.

They also have the role to make suggestions regarding proper procedure, do research in matters needed in official recording and help in many other ways.
