What does a Credit Controller do?
As a credit controller, you will be working with a financial institute, working with debt recollection and contacting defaulters for recovering unpaid money. Also known as a debt collection agent, you will be responsible for contacting, individuals, businesses and other organisations that have taken debts, but now fail to repay in time. You will be working with a bank, a financial institute or with other businesses that have to extend credit to clients or partners. You may also work with a collection agency, a debt purchasing company, etc, while delivering same line of duties.
You will call up or meet defaulting customers or clients, telling them payments are overdue. You will also ask them to repay the dues. Sometimes you will also work with the defaulters on alternate repayment plans. You will be responsible for checking credit records, keeping customer files, initiating legal proceedings in case debts are not paid after reasonable negotiations, etc. You may also work with solicitors, bailiffs, etc.
As a credit controller or debt recollection agent, you must be knowledgeable about laws applicable to debt collection, repossession, etc.
