What qualifications are needed to become a Debt Collector?
While employers don't emphasize specific educational qualifications, you will benefit from good levels of general education – GCSEs (A-C) including math and English can be helpful. Your skills play a bigger role than your formal education qualifications. You need to have good communication skills, professionalism, attention to detail and ability to manage people, groups and businesses that have defaulted their repayment.
Employers will look for reasonable levels of computer proficiency, as you will be using technologies of different kinds while on the job. Your experience in bookkeeping or accounting also is helpful. A thorough understanding of the legal premises is important – like, you can't call up a defaulter outside normal social hours.
You will receive intensive induction training, which includes basic outlook of laws regarding credit collection practices, telephone skills, understanding of Court procedures, etc. You can also proceed to higher qualifications while on the job.
