Default What do Diplomatic Service Officers Do?

Diplomatic service officers are in Diplomatic Service for Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), working in offices within UK, commonwealth nations and other countries around the world. They protect British interests around the world. They also look into the security of British citizens, wherever they are. They also offer advice and support to different parties responsible for developing British foreign policy.

Their diverse responsibilities include closely watching the political and business developments in the host country. They are responsible for interacting with the media at the different countries, communicating Britain's stand on developments in political, economic and commercial scenes. They also oversee consular services like visa processing for citizens of host countries and ensuring safety situation of British citizens while they tour different countries.

The responsibilities can vary according to the position you hold – like developing policy changes, implementing strategies, managing clerical staff or providing clerical support – according to the grade you are in.
