Default What qualifications are required to becoming a diver?

You must be physically fit and should have good knowledge of underwater survival – those are the essential qualifications. Depending on the place you are applying as a diver, you might need to have some degrees like surveying or engineering. While working for oil and gas exploration companies, you will need technical skills like welding and construction. To be absorbed to research facilities or labs, you need to have a degree in oceanography or marine biology. Police persons with diving skills are also trained for the purpose.

You will need to take a medical test every year that you continue to be a diver. This medical test is according to the standards set by Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Your experience as a scuba diver at scuba diving destinations also can be of help while applying for the position of a diver.

Apart from good physical fitness and diving skills, qualifications in relevant areas are also important.
