Default Qualifications needed to become a Driving Instructor

You need to be trained as an Approved Driving Instructor with Driving Standards Agency. For this, you need to hold a valid UK or EU driving license for at least four years in the past six years. You should also pass criminal records tests and should not be disqualified in the past four years. You will also undergo practical and theory exams to test your knowledge of driving laws, driving skills and teaching capabilities.

You will then receive training on teaching methods. You can also receive training in teaching by opting for a trainee licence. Driving schools and specialist driving schools appoint qualified instructors. Once you have passed the ADI exams, you can offer training to students. A licence is valid for four years only. On the job, you can also opt for continuing professional development schemes available for driving instructors.
