Default What does an Equalities Officer do?

Equalities officers or advisers are officers who are responsible for promotion and maintenance of positive practices for particular groups – like minority groups, disabled persons and women. Their duty is to prevent discrimination and recommend action against violators. They make sure equal opportunities are available in fields education, employment and services. Your duties will include recommending practices and suggestions for policies and practices within an organisation – schools, workplace, public office, etc.

You will also work with local communities, extending services for the disadvantaged or under-represented. They suggest policies for hiring persons, staff development training, employee retention, etc. As an equalities officer, you will also make sure discriminatory messages don't creep into advertisements like job listings. You will be working individually or with an organization, as a equal opportunities officer.
