Default What does an Estimator do?

Estimators or cost engineers make estimates of expected costs of delivering products or services. They work in industries like construction, engineering and manufacturing. The duty of estimators is to identify the costs involved in the projects and to create budget according to the cost projections. The responsibilities include researching the market to identify the costs of extending the products or services to the market. You will also conduct market researches to identify what the customer or client requirements to plan manufacturing or construction plans. Other duties include researching materials, labour market, equipment costs, etc.

An estimator will also compare quotes by different suppliers & contractors. You will use software tools to ascertain the costs and risks involved in the projects. The duties also include preparing and submitting quotations. You will also oversee and manage procurement and logistics. An estimator also makes sure the different stages of development are progress as per the plans and the costs are kept to within the budget.
