What does a Facilities Manager do?
The responsibilities of a Facilities Manager include making sure the buildings under their control meet the standards according to the requirements of the occupants or users. The responsibilities also include making sure the available space has optimum utilisation and making arrangements, repair, refurbishment or renovation whenever needed. You will also make sure the buildings meet security and energy efficiency standards. You will also make sure the requirements like cleaning, parking, waste disposal, etc are cleanly undertaken. Facilities managers also make sure the equipments like computers, electrical appliances, etc are working properly. As a facilities manager, you will make arrangements for security, maintenance, etc. You will keep records of the expenses and works undertaken.
Facilities management is not a clearly differentiated job role in smaller organisations. In large organisations and in government sector, facilities managers are appointed. You can also be employed by specialist contractors or companies that offer facilities management services to third party buildings.
