Default What does a Family Mediator do?

Family mediators are legally qualified professionals, who can provide counselling to divorcing couples. They help them arrange for their children and finances, without sending the cases to Courts. Your duties don't include offering advice or suggestions of what to do. Instead, you help the separating couples or their representatives have meaningful talks. You don't offer legal advice, although you can explain to them the legal terms and conditions of their activities.

You will meet both partners jointly or separately, listening to them and identifying the causes of differences. You will also explain to them the goals of mediation process and the options available to them. It is different from offering legal advice. You will also work out on the financial conditions of the spouses, options for child residence, property claims, etc.

You will also explain to the couples, all the workable solutions. The mediation process doesn't always end in divorce. You will summarise the agreements the couple has reached. In cases mediation is not going anywhere, you will refer the case to solicitors or courts of family.
