Default Qualifications needed to become a Film/Video Editor

Your formal educational qualifications have very little to do here. If you have years of experience editing top notch videos and other films, you will be making handsome earnings. Your creativity, ability to work with video editing software, etc are all important.

You can go for formal qualifications to gain an understanding of the work and for hands on training. You can also join editors as assistants, from where you can learn the valuable skills. You can find unpaid editing opportunities in school/college video production.

There are also certificate and diploma courses in media technologies, post production, video editing, etc. You normally join the production companies as an assistant editor, from where you can qualify as film/video editor as you gain experience and skills. You also need to keep yourself updated to the latest technologies, equipment and software available out there. Good communication skills and ability to understand client needs also are important.
