You should be at least 18 years old, with good physical capacities and good eyesight (without glasses). You need to have educational qualifications (GCSEs - any). There are several certificate courses that prepare you as a firefighter. These courses cover basic firefighting techniques, the methods of entering and leaving rooms on fire, using protecting clothing, breathing apparatus, different types of fire (from short circuits, bomb blast, petrol, or inflammable gases), using tools (ladder, hoses, ropes, etc), first aid, etc are covered in such courses. You can also take up additional training once you are inducted into a fire fighting squad and can join professional associations to update your skills and knowledge.
