Default What skills are needed to become a firefighter?

Firefighters need to have high levels of physical fitness and stamina. Being able to keep your calm under pressure situations and being able to take orders, co-ordinate rescue operations, and excellent communication skills are all essential. You will need to be inspire the people in distress and give them confidence to get out of the condition they are at. They are able to use the protective gear and are confident of using variety of tools – rope, hooks, pulleys, protective gear, etc according to the situations. Good communication skills – both verbal and written – are essential, as you may need to prepare reports for legal and insurance purposes. The most important thing of all is being able to undertake the rescue or firefighting operations with the tools you have got.
