You should be a thorough seafarer to be successful as a fishing vessel skipper. You have a good understanding of vessels. You also need to have a good understanding of the working of communication devices, GPS systems and other basic electronic and engineering tools. You are responsible for the safety of the vessel and crewmembers. Thus, you should be able to take decisions responsibly, even under stressful conditions. You will need to have sea survival skills. You will also need a thorough understanding of UK and international maritime laws, fishing rules, etc. You also have to be business-minded while going trawling.
