What Do GP Practice Managers Do?
GP Practice Managers look into the business operations of a surgery or health centre. As a GP Practice Manager, you will manage staff, organise finances and keep medical records. You will also be responsible for developing business strategies, and making sure the functioning of the GP centre runs smoothly.
Depending on the size of the practise, you will be delivering diverse duties. For the smaller practices you will have more duties, as the staff strength will be normally low, whereas in bigger practices you have specific responsibilities with managers and officers at different posts.
Your duties can include recruiting, training and managing medical secretaries, receptionists, and other staff members. You will be dealing with accounts, budgets, and finances in general. You will also organise the duty schedules of the physicians. You will look into the matters like keeping stock records, placing orders for supplies needed, paying wages, etc. You will keep records of day to day administration in both paper filing and computer based medical records.
You will interact with and keep contacts with professionals in the sector, attend meetings and monitor prescriptions at the practice.
