Qualifications required to become a Helpdesk Professional
You really don't need any formal academic or vocational qualifications, although you can benefit from certificates or diplomas in computer maintenance, networking, etc. You can start under an experienced professional, gathering work experience and gradually taking responsibilities. You need good knowledge of computer hardware and software. You can go for certificate or diploma for IT practitioners, which are on offer from City & Guilds, BTEC, etc. There are also training programs by computer & software service companies.
Good customer support skills and communication skills are needed. You can opt for short-term or long-term courses for software, networking, etc. You can also opt for NVQ for IT practitioners (levels 1 through 4). Employers will look for your ability to offer telephone and direct customer support, ability to explain technical details to the non-technical persons, and similar qualities.
