Qualifications required to becoming a Housing Officer
Employers will be more interested in your work experience and personal qualities rather than academic qualifications. Candidates with BTEC HNC, HND, or degree in a relevant subject such as housing, town planning, social policy or urban studies are preferred by employers. Practical experience in housing is an added advantage for this job. Work placements in local authority housing departments or volunteering with any charity organization can aid in gaining experience. , Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) qualifications like CIH Certificates in Housing at levels 2, 3 and 4 are highly honored in this profession. a paid worker, volunteer or tenant can work towards this courses. You can make a start in an administrative, trainee or housing assistant role on your way up to housing officer. Officers need good back ground education and at least four or five GCSEs (A-C). Officers need to qualify CIH awards or BTEC HNC in Housing Studies while working. Apprentice ship schemes are also available for beginners. Employers usually provide in house training for graduate trainees. Graduates in housing can complete CIH Level 4 Certificate in Access to Housing. Advancement to CIH Postgraduate Professional Diploma in Housing is also recommended. Registering with CIH APEX (Accreditation of Prior Experience) programme can increase your status in the job market.
