Default What qualifications are required to becoming an Immigration Officer

Apart from a college degree, you will need good communication skills and ability to work under heavy pressure to be able to qualified to becoming an Immigration Officer. You must be a UK national and should have lived in the country for the past five years. You will be absorbed as an Immigration Officer only after thorough background check and security clearance. You must be physically fit and aged between 18 and 63. You will undertake tests, where your communication skills, assertiveness, judgement skills, conflict management capabilities, awareness of immigration related laws, etc are examined.

Knowing a foreign language can be beneficial, but not essential. In normal cases, you start your career as an Assistant Immigration Officer and promote to Immigration Manager. After being absorbed, you will undergo training at airports, where you work with senior Immigration Officers. You will need to work in shifts, late nights, weekends and in general holidays.
