Default What does a Large Goods Vehicle Driver do?

A Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver is responsible for driving an LGV (also known as HGV) to move heavy goods to/from suppliers, distribution centres, warehouses, etc. They drive heavy commercial vehicles of over 7.5 tonnes and carry goods to places within the United Kingdom. They also drive their vehicles to outside the UK for overseas deliveries.

Apart from driving, you are also responsible for scheduling routes, completing paperwork, collecting signatures, etc. You are responsible for delivering goods safely at the destination. You will also make sure the vehicle is kept in good condition – breaks, tyre, engine, etc.

You work round the week. However, there are restrictions on the number of hours you can spend driving. Normally, you would drive 40 to 45 hours a week. You will also be required to drive day & night and under all kinds of climatic conditions.
