Default Qualifications required to becoming a Large Goods Vehicle Driver

You need a valid LGV licence to become a Large Goods Vehicle Driver. To get this licence, you need to have a good driving record, normal eyesight, and pass medical test. You also need to possess good English and maths skills, as you will be appearing a theory test before you are issued an LGV licence. There are two types of licences – Category C and Category C+E, which permit you to drive rigid vehicles and articulated lorries respectively.

You can move to LGV driving, if you have experience operating vehicles according to related works like bus/coach driving, forklift operation, etc.

According to new EU Directive, you will need Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in addition to valid LGV license. This directive is effective from September 10, 2009.
