Default What qualifications are needed to become a Medical Secretary?

Apart from reasonable educational qualifications like some GCSEs including English, you will also need good computer skills. Prior office administration experience will be helpful. You also need to understand and use word processing software and must possess good organizational and bookkeeping skills.

For experience, you can try temping. There are also apprenticeships programs available, depending on the location and job market conditions. If you have experience in healthcare sector, it will be an advantage. You can also take qualification courses while you are on the job. There are courses like British Society of Medical Secretaries (BSMS) Certificate, which will help you get promotion while on the job. You can also look for qualifications BSMS Certificate or other diploma courses while you are on the job.
