Default What qualifications are required to becoming a Museum Assistant

Educational qualifications are not a big requirement of getting into the position of a Museum Assistant. You should be reasonably experienced in handling English and maths. Some museums however require you to have four GCSEs or equivalent qualifications and occasionally with the requirement of at least one A level. Background checks and security clearance will be done before you can be absorbed into the position.

Your prior experience in sales, security, customer service, volunteering in a museum or gallery, etc can also be helpful. Your understanding of the value of the exhibits, people management skills and being able to deliver the expected tasks, etc are prerequisites. You can get into the job by signing up for apprenticeship programs or by volunteering your time at galleries. The experience you gain in such occasions can qualify you for the post and employers of all kinds look for such experience.
