Default What does a Patent Attorney do?

A patent attorney is well versed in business law, especially patent laws and help patent owners protect their profits. The inventors can protect their inventions for specific periods of time – this is called patent. If competitors copy your invention, you can sue them. It is similar to copyright laws, where other authors are not allowed to copy your works, unless you give explicit permission.

Patent holders can also sell their rights for product developers, in exchange of profit-sharing agreements or outright sale of intellectual property rights. You will meet up with inventors and manufacturers, to identify the details of the invention. You will also draft patent sharing agreements to help the inventors benefiting from their inventions. You will also initiate legal action against businesses within UK or around the world, which copy your invention without the permission of the inventor.
