Qualifications required to becoming a Play Therapist
An approved post graduation and registration with the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT) or Play Therapy UK (PTUK) are mandatory qualifications for a play therapist. To qualify a BAPT course you need good physical and mental health. A relevant post graduation in psychology, social work or nursing and two year work experience with children is also needed. During the course work u will have personal therapy. You will be placed in clinics with formal supervision of experienced hands as a part of course work. PTUK course needs work experience and graduation in teaching or nursery nursing. BAPT or PTUK members have to attend conferences, work shops and work towards professional development (CPD) for retaining membership. With ample work experiences in teaching or occupational therapy you can turn into play therapist as a second career. Driving license is also necessary.
