What skills are needed to becoming a Police Officer
Police officers are good communicators. They should communicate to the public in an effective way, especially under stressful conditions or even life-threatening situations. They should be logical and able to take decisions quickly under pressure. They also must be able to take orders and work independently. Honest, confident, assertive, socially intuitive – you should be all that.
You will be doing a lot of reporting and you strong verbal and written communication skills. You should record arrests and details of crime or suspected crimes, witness accounts, victim accounts, etc in an accurate, descriptive manner. Tact, resilience in the face of adversity, strong & assertive communication, being firm, etc are essential qualities of police officers. You must be able to keep discipline, without surrendering common sense approach. Honesty, perseverance and impartiality are essential qualities, which must come naturally to you. Being a police office is a responsible job, with responsibility of safety of lives and property.
