Qualifications required to becoming a Port Operative
Employers are looking for a medically fit candidate with a valid driving license and normal color vision. There are not any exact doorway requirements for this job. Stevedores will be asked for previous experiences in crane operations. Heavy vehicle driving experiences is an added advantage. Maintenance jobs can be performed well if you have got engineering experiences. Certificates in sea survival, boat handling and fire fighting are needed for an opening as marine operator.
Working experiences with marine craft and radar operations is helpful. Passenger operators need good communication and service skills. They should mingle well with people from different backgrounds. Knowledge in foreign languages is needed. You can make entry as Apprentice trainees. Further training in equipment operations, truck driving and also signaling instructions will be provided by the employers. Level 2 NVQ certificates in Stevedoring, Marine Operations, Passenger Operations, General Port Operations and Team Leading can be done as further enhancements. Level 3 NVQ in Supervision of Port Operations is also one recommended qualification.
