What skills are needed to becoming a Prison Governor
You will be seeing criminals more often and need to have the self confidence and motivation to stay in the job. You must possess excellent communication skills. You should be able to report the developments in detail. A genuine interest in the legal system, interest in the welfare of inmates, assertive personality and ability to cope with stressful working conditions, etc are also essential skills you must possess. You must maintain discipline and order in the prison and must be able to coordinate other staff in this regard.
You may be required to work long hours, late into the nights and on holidays. You are also likely to travel, depending on the situations. Being assertive, strong leadership skills, ability to work under high stress conditions – life as a Prison Governor is extremely difficult without these personal properties. You are a person of authority and you must deal with the challenges in a convincing manner.
