Default What does a probation officer do?

A probation officer is responsible for ensuring public safety by reducing criminal action in the society. The duties include ensuring criminals serve sentences; helping criminals back to society and making sure instances of criminal actions are minimized or eliminated. Their duties can also include giving counselling to offenders and telling them the effects of their action on society and people. All these actions are aimed at minimising the risks of criminal activities in the society.

You will be working with a team, preparing reports to be presented in the court, and guiding offenders lead normal, non-threatening lives. You make sure community orders are enforced and offenders serve their punishment. You will also work with victims of crime, helping them back to normal lives. You will be working closely with police, social services, etc. You will also present evidences to the court.
