Qualifications Required to Becoming a Reprographic Assistant
Although any specific qualifications are not needed to become a reprographics assistant, GCSEs in, Art and Design, Maths, IT and English is an advantage. Specific print –related qualifications like BTEC Certificate and Diploma in Graphics or in Art & Design, ABC Diploma in Digital Pre-Press Level 3 or City & Guilds Certificate in Printing and Graphic Communications levels 2 and 3 is appreciable. General art and design, audio-visual studies and desktop publishing courses are also helpful. Basic knowledge of printing, binding, finishing and production methods is necessary. Awareness of the functioning of the printing and binding machine is essential. Familiarity with high speed copier and finishing works make the career easier for the beginners. Printing or reprographics Apprenticeship scheme is an advisable opening for young people. Working experience in a local organization is an advantage. Adults looking for the position of departmental supervisor or production controller require ample experience in printing or graphics and expertise in using copying equipment.
