What does an IT Security Coordinator do?
It is the responsibility of IT security coordinators to keep computer networks and IT infrastructure safe from threats like virus attacks, hacking and corruption. They use variety of tools and procedures to prevent attacks, to protect confidential data and to ensure smooth functioning of the organisation. They work for government organisations, financial institutions like banks, and IT security consultancy firms.
The IT threats include virus, worm and Trojan attacks, hacking, denial of service attacks, phishing, pharming, etc. As an IT security coordinator, it will be your responsibility to assess the threats and to develop plans to minimise threats. You will also make sure there is enough data backup, so that operations can be continued in case of physical damage to the computer systems. You will also update managers and other users of the systems about the security issues and about the practices and procedures to follow.
