Default What Qualifications are required to Becoming a Typist?

Good typing skills and ability to understand orders quickly and clearly are the most important qualifications. You will also require basic academic qualifications. Almost all companies ask for prior experience. You can gain experience by volunteering or temping.

If your job responsibilities involve management of administrative side, you will need qualifications in that area. Certificate and diploma courses in accounting, data entry, etc can be additional qualifications. Qualifications like NVQ levels 1 and 2 in Business & Administration can be helpful for several typist posts. Having gone through courses like audio transcription, speed typing, word processing, etc can also help. In most cases, only good keyboard skills and communication skills are the only qualifications you need. Your employer will give you on the job training to prepare you for the different tasks.
