Default What does a Welfare Rights Officer do?

Welfare rights officers work with Citizens Advice Bureaux (CAB) or other organizations, providing information and advice on welfare rights. As a welfare benefits adviser, you will provide advice on housing, employment, debt management, etc. Clients seek your advice on issues through variety of channels. You will also provide information on benefits issues. Sometimes you may also work for particular groups – like groups of differently abled people.

Your duties include advising your clients on all the different benefits available to them. You will also help them file for benefits, explaining eligibility requirements, and more. You have a thorough knowledge of the laws and the different sources from where benefits are available. Sometimes the duties can also include providing training to newly recruited officers, volunteers, etc.
